Upon contact, the spores of the fungus penetrate the target pest's cuticle, proliferating and producing a toxin called Beauvericin. This toxin weakens the host’s immune system, draining its nutrients and leading to its eventual demise. Post-death, the fungus produces an antibiotic, outcompeting other bacteria.
